Getting through adolescence is tough, not just for the child growing into the body of a young adult, but for the exhausted and often confused parent. The problems of today’s technology based teenagedom are easier to understand after reading Allison and Deana’s book. Who knows what YOLO means? And I know there is a code for “Red alert parent approaching”? Can someone tell me?

Spring RAP Chat 2018 Hello to students, teachers, parents & like-minded colleagues. We are looking forward to a warmer Summer Term. As our students prepare for their imminent GCSE & A-level exams, wrestle with their digital footprints, measure their relationships on & off line, we hope the universe can send more of this surprising sunshine their way to ease their mounting stress. Our expanding team at The RAP Project has a few developments to share with you. We’ve hired recent graduate Phoebe McIndoe to be our RAP Producer & Presenter, expanded into Primary & SEND schools, consulted the Bermudian Education Ministry as well as presented at several of the island’s schools. We are now also Rapping on the Isle of Jersey. Phoebe McIndoe made an impressionable debut as a representative of The RAP Project at a Durex sponsored UCL Conference entitled “Sexual Rights are Human Rights. With Autumn half term quickly approaching, The Rap Project team plans to spend time expanding its talks on sexual assault and consent to younger students. A groundbreaking Panorama documentary aired this week, reporting on the high instances of peer on peer sexual abuse in schools. As a result, Deana was invited onto BBC’s Woman’s Hour to discuss teaching consent to students. Presenter Jane Garvey and fellow guest Rachel Fitzsimmons, an SRE educator, held a lively, informative discussion on the importance of clearly explaining the law and its practice to young people. Whether we are presenting our various Raps in London, Liverpool, Manchester or beyond, students clearly struggle with understanding of what the concept of ‘consent’ actually means.
